Château du Plessis Bourré

One of the finest castles in Anjou, only ten minutes from Les Briottières. Still occupied today by its owners. Built in 1468. The transitional architecture is a cross between a fortress and a Renaissance-style dwelling. Opulently furnished rooms, magnificent structure and in the Guard Room, a ceiling painted with mysterious alchemic figures whose secrets remain to be discovered.

Château d’ Angers and the Apocalypse Tapestry

This castle, built in the early 13th century by Saint Louis (King Louis IX), is characterised by its pentagonal wall, nearly a kilometre long, bulging with 17 massive towers. Inside are its hanging gardens and the famous Apocalypse Tapestry (1370), the largest piece of Medieval weaving in the world, at more than 100 metres long.
