Imagine a palace on a promontory above the course of the Loire, and imagine gardens suspended between heaven and earth... Amboise was one of the favorite sites of the kings of France when they transformed their country during the Renaissance. Anne of Brittany, François I or Leonardo da Vinci (buried in the castle chapel), are here familiar faces that can be rediscovered thanks to the HistoPad. A living castle open to nature, a haven of peace for more than 90 species of birds, Amboise also offers a unique 360° view of landscapes listed as World Heritage by UNESCO.
The royal residence corresponds to one of the former living spaces of the Court of France at the castle. It includes three levels of visit: the ground floor and the first floor are devoted to the evocation of the Renaissance (reign of the kings of France), the second floor to that of the 19th century (period of renewal for the Château d'Amboise, under the reign of Louis-Philippe) .You will thus be able to discover the guard rooms, the Great Council Hall and its spectacular decorations, the king's bedroom or the cavalier tower of the Minimes. All rooms are mediated with the HistoPad tablet, which is given to you free of charge when you go to the ticket office.
Visible as soon as you approach, the Saint Hubert Chapel is one of the architectural jewels of the Château d'Amboise. Former private oratory of the kings of France that seems to be suspended above the city, it houses sumptuous decorations carved in tufa, this soft stone typical of the Loire Valley allowing the finest work to be done. Be sure to also look up at the building's remarkable stained-glass windows. It is in this setting that you can discover Leonardo da Vinci's tomb. As he had expressed the wish, the Italian genius indeed rests in Amboise for eternity. The chapel is being mediated with the Histopad tablet.
