Château d'Azay-le-Rideau

An architectural masterpiece among the castles of the Loire, the castle of Azay-le-Rideau sits proudly on the Indre. With its particular L-shaped structure and its typical Renaissance towers, the monument is a proud witness to a glorious past and of great artistic finesse.

Château d'Azay-le-Rideau: architectural jewel of Touraine

A beautiful stylistic transition between medieval castles and grand Renaissance palaces, the Château d'Azay-le-Rideau is an architectural marvel that continues to impress history enthusiasts and lovers of old buildings. For a memorable visit, let yourself be overwhelmed by the magic of the place, forged by both the presence of the building and the beauty of the park.

Built above the Indre, the castle is majestically reflected in the calm waters of the river, a tributary of the Loire. Its builder, a close friend of François I, wanted to combine Italian influences with French know-how. Nearly 120 km from Les Briottières, the site is a popular stopover for visitors to the Anjou region, thus completing a rich historical journey.

A sumptuous interior decoration

The interior of the Château d'Azay-le-Rideau is a reflection of the different eras it went through. The Biencourt salon, named in honor of its illustrious owners between the 18th and 19th centuries, is a veritable museum with its works of art hanging on the walls, tapestries and furniture. Upstairs, the Renaissance atmosphere has been faithfully maintained. The bed is raised and has velvet upholstery.
In the various spaces, the stained glass windows filter the light in the most beautiful way and highlight the beauty of every corner. Don't forget to come to the kitchen to appreciate not only the vaults, but also the large fireplace.

The park, a magnificent space to relax

After exploring the various rooms of the castle, it is pleasant to stroll through the heart of the huge park to establish a privileged contact with nature. In place of the old French garden, the Biencourt family decided to develop it in the English way to better integrate the body of water while reproducing a wilder and more authentic nature.
The sinuous alleys and the exotic species identified add to the rustic charm of the place. For photography enthusiasts, the reflection of a castle in the peaceful river offers an opportunity to take an exceptional shot.
